Overview
Calculates profit margin (profit as a percentage of selling price) and markup (profit as a percentage of cost) from a cost and selling price — two related but different numbers that are easy to mix up.
How to use it
- 1Enter the cost price.
- 2Enter the selling price.
- 3View profit, margin and markup.
Formula
Margin
Margin % = (Profit / Selling price) × 100
Markup
Markup % = (Profit / Cost price) × 100
Tips
- Margin and markup on the same sale are always different numbers — a 50% markup on cost is only a 33.3% margin on the selling price.
